Earlier today, Metaversed adventurer Onder Skall reported on a rumor that SUN were working with Linden Lab, makers of Second Life to port the server code to the Solaris operating system. Solaris is a Unix derived OS similar to Linux and BSD. Since this morning, I've managed to catch up with Klaatu Niu, who in real life is Brian Foley, a systems engineer with SUN working with 3D technologies and Second Life in particular and confirm that they are porting the client code, not the server code. Klaatu did however express an interest in getting his hands on it, just like the rest of us....
The Solaris Engineer responsible for the port is Dana Fagerstrong, who posts details of the project here.
