MTV are to integrate celebrity avatars from it's existing, and planned virtual worlds, which currently include virtual Laguna Beach and kids world Nicktropolis, into it's linear programming. Mike Salmi, MTV's president for global digital media, said that the media company were also planning more virtual environments in the near future according to Broadcast Newsroom reporting from the Goldman Sachs Internet Conference being held in Las Vegas. MTV has been industriously reinventing itself for some time now, and virtual worlds, powered by There, along with brand microsites and all manner of social integration between platforms is key to this.
