Metaversed Live

On October 1st 2007 author Julian Dibbell joined us for a Metanomics session to talk a bit about his book Play Money and his upcoming book about Ludo-Capitalism where play is doing the job work used to.

On 20th September 2007, IBM, Cornell University and Metaversed.com staged a "tri reality" event in Active Worlds, Second Life, and in front of a live audience at the Johnson School's Sage Hall as part of our Metanomics series of events. Sandra kearney, IBM's head of 3D internet explains the companies role in the Metaverse from this unique perspective.

On thursday at 12 noon this week, the Metaversed Live show covered the ID verification debate in front of a live audience in Second Life, and Talkshoe.com - On the show this week were Navillus Batra, Cybergrrl Oh, Craigster Hax and Susan Reynolds.

On this week's Metaversed Live, Metaversed.com's weekly business and technology talkshow hosted live in Second Life and on Talkshoe, Cisco Systems Christian Renaud, SLNN's Aliza Sherman and UgoTrade blogger Tish Shute join Metaversed Nick Wilson to talk about what the second wave of businesses coming into the virtual world are going to have to do to succeed, and hear how Cisco turned around their entire virtual worlds strategy based on hands on experience in Second Life.

On Thursday the 16th of August 2007, Gartner's Steve Prentice came on the Metaversed Live show to defend and clarify the analyst firms position on virtual worlds. Steve hit the headlines twice in recent months with predictions of 80% virtual world usage by 2011, and cautionary advice to companies regarding "open virtual worlds".

"This is not a game, this is not a toy, this is going to be as big as the world wide web"

On the panel this week we had Robert Bloomfield of Cornell university's Johnson School, Fiona Gallagher, Sun Micro Systems lead in Second Life, and Joel Greenberg, VP marketing and innovation for Electric Sheep Company.

We had major audio issues as Skype was down, making it impossible for me to capture the audio and stream it, but the audio has been edited to best of my limited ability, and nevertheless makes for a facinating listen.

Yesterday evening, Metaversed Live, our weekly business and technology talkshow in Second Life was held at the brand new SAP offices courtesy of Craigster Hax. The panel was entitled "Corporate Challenges in Virtual Worlds" and was recorded live on Talkshoe and streamed before the Metaversed group members. The majority of what I know you'll find to be an enlightening, and frank discussion between some of the more prominent companies in Second Life was fueled by questions from the audience. I'd like to thank our guests for their help, it's not fun being talked AT, and we appreciate you guys getting into the conversation with such engaging questions and comments!

On Thursday this week we recorded the pilot episode of Metaversed Live, a new weekly panel event in Second Life where virtual worlds experts, technologists and friends of Metaversed's gather to talk about current issues in virtual worlds in front of a live audience. All went fairly smoothly, and a lot was learnt from this initial epsiode so I hope you enjoy it!
