Metaversed Podcast 40 - Lowdown on Eolus

18:56 minutes (21.67 MB)

eolusWhen my friend Tish over at Ugotrade started getting all excited over a new tech opening in Second Life I figured it could be something special. When I read her amazingly detailed writeup of the Eolus project, which launches this Friday, I went looking for Eolus McMillan, the project's lead, in hope of grabbing some audio to add to Tish's text. The following podcast will give you the lowdown on what I think is one of the most exciting Second Life tech projects I've seen: An ambitious attempt to provide not only a "think tank" of some of Second Life's smartest folks and top companies, but to also practically demonstrate what the future may hold for 3D immersive environments and our every day lives.

I also had a chance to speak briefly with Tue Torok, who's SL Business Link, which is also today's Things To Do, launches today. You can hear a short talk from Tue, then a lightly edited conversation I had with Eolus McMillan.

This is also the first time I've had guests on the show, so do share your feedback, good or bad!

First Friday Tech Showcase Kicks Up A Geek Storm in Second Life

Tagged:
33:11 minutes (37.98 MB)

Metaversed.com held the first of a new monthly tech showcase series in Second Life last week, called "First Friday". Despite Second Life stability issues, Talkshoe dumping us, some dodgy landline quality and other fun and games, the event was great fun, and the audience, press judged it a great success.

If you missed it, hit play. I've done my best to clean up and edit the audio and the result is a pretty good podcast of the event, minus some of the sound issues we had at the live gig.

Coverage

As is customary at these events, First Friday, which is simply the organized version of our previously occasional 'gadgeteers edition' Geek Meets, we had our fair share of bloggers, and notables in attendance. Here are a couple of links to thier coverage of First Friday. Thanks guys!

If you covered the event and I missed you, drop me a link in the comments or email nick@metaversed.com and I'll update. If you were at the gig and have questions or comments, please do so in the box below!

Metaversed Live #2 - Corporate Challenges in Virtual Worlds

67:50 minutes (62.11 MB)

Yesterday evening, Metaversed Live, our weekly business and technology talkshow in Second Life was held at the brand new SAP offices courtesy of Craigster Hax. The panel was entitled "Corporate Challenges in Virtual Worlds" and was recorded live on Talkshoe and streamed before the Metaversed group members. The majority of what I know you'll find to be an enlightening, and frank discussion between some of the more prominent companies in Second Life was fueled by questions from the audience. I'd like to thank our guests for their help, it's not fun being talked AT, and we appreciate you guys getting into the conversation with such engaging questions and comments!

Thanks To Our Guests

Thanks to our guests for coming onto the show, they did a great job I reckon..

If you'd like to take part in the live discussions, do join the Metaversed group in Second Life!

Metaversed Live #3 - Gartner on Virtual Worlds

69:52 minutes (47.98 MB)

On Thursday the 16th of August 2007, Gartner's Steve Prentice came on the Metaversed Live show to defend and clarify the analyst firms position on virtual worlds. Steve hit the headlines twice in recent months with predictions of 80% virtual world usage by 2011, and cautionary advice to companies regarding "open virtual worlds".

"This is not a game, this is not a toy, this is going to be as big as the world wide web"

On the panel this week we had Robert Bloomfield of Cornell university's Johnson School, Fiona Gallagher, Sun Micro Systems lead in Second Life, and Joel Greenberg, VP marketing and innovation for Electric Sheep Company.

We had major audio issues as Skype was down, making it impossible for me to capture the audio and stream it, but the audio has been edited to best of my limited ability, and nevertheless makes for a facinating listen.

Do let us know what you think!
