I want to reiterate that identity verification is voluntary for both Residents and estate owners. Residents who value their anonymity may continue to remain anonymous and will continue to have access to all Mature and PG areas of the Grid. Land owners are strongly encouraged to flag adult content as Restricted to safeguard themselves from publishing inappropriate content to minors, as well as protecting any minors themselves.

Actually, this might help convince folks that my avatar is not child! She only looks childish cuz she's 5 ft 6 inches tall, which in SL is basically a midget and/or child. :-)

My avatar is a child. What does that have to do with RL at all?
I'm of two minds about this. I agree that age verification is something that has been needed for quite a while. I'm not sure that the current method goes too far or not. I also am not sure whether I trust the company contracted with to do the identity verification.
I also firmly believe that Robin Linden doesn't know how to say anything that isn't doublespeak, and someone else needs to come out with a clear explanation of the reasoning behind, the process of, and the uses of, the identity verification system they're putting in place.

I'll be damned if I'm going to verify my age when I already submitted to a background check that netted them a THICK file on me for Teen Grid access. In order to be on the teen grid, you have to be an approved adult. That pretty much acknowledges right there that they know my identity. Plus, why do I need to access freaky sex locations anyway?
For anyone living uder a rock today, this is a poll to gage reaction and intent from the announcement that age verification is becoming a reality in Second Life.
Going to be adding an article about this momentarily.
Oh good! Im about to do dinner, will read as soon as im back!
