Mitch Wagner talks about what Cisco are using Second Life for in the InformationWeek blog this morning. Im not sure why Mitch would find it surprising that companies are using SL as a B2B tool, it's one of the most common reasons given to me when I speak with companies in the virtual world, but what Christian Renaud, chief architect of networked virtual environments for Cisco had to say about their day to day activity makes for pretty interesting reading. So what are Cisco using SL for?
- User group meetings
- International staff meets
- Customer education and training
- Presentations and customer events
- Mixed reality events
The real value it seems is in the social networking side of Second Life for Cisco, with Renaud enthusing "I bump into customers and partners multiple times a day in Second Life. In 11 years at Cisco, walking through the parking lot in San Jose, I never get people come up to me and say, 'I'm a Cisco customer, have a second?'"
