Celebrated virtual world economist Ted Castronova will be joining us at today's Metanomics session at 11AM PST in the virtual world of Second Life. His paper "Virtual Worlds: A First-Hand Account of Market and Society on the Cyberian Frontier" began a major trend in academic circles for the serious study of virtual economies. Now he will be giving us all an inside look at his latest book, and answer some hard questions from the audience.
As usual the event will be on Metaversed Island and viewed across the Second Life grid via video broadcast from SLCN.tv. If you'd like to be a part of the audience at the island itself, please make sure to arrive early as we fill the island to maximum capacity.
This week, a special avatar was requested by our guest: “make me a dwarf female, high fantasy style." I put the call out to our groups and received a number of submissions. Castronova selected the design by Shawk Pertwee, an experienced designer of colossal builds and great works of art. You can see the winning avatar design at today's event!

Ampitheater at Colonia Nova
The Colonia Nova sim is a low lag sim, modeled after Cologne, Germany under Roman rule, about 53 BCE. The Amphitheatre seats up to 80 avis. Colonia Nova is one of the sims governed by the CDS, Confederation of Democratic Sims, the oldest functioning democracy in SL. Members of the CDS include many lawyers, bankers and experienced SL trendsetters who participate in the discussons following Metanomics presentations in a relaxed atmosphere. Refreshments provided!
