As Metaversed adventurer Onder Skall reminded us today, Linden Lab, the company behind the virtual world of Second Life are due to announce the integration of voice chat into its regular software this month. Ahead of that pending announcement, comes a promotion aimed at new members of competing world There.com, which has had full voice integration available to premium accounts since 2003. Makena Technologies, the company behind There, which is best known for its work with MTV on Virtual Laguna Beach, and Pimp my RIde, will be providing unlimited free upgrades of all new accounts (no goodies for older accounts it seems) for the rest of this month.
To little too late? I can only assume the somewhat limp promo's purpose is steal a little of the upcoming Linden announcements fire, but I can't say it's making me all weak at the knees, can you?
