Great chat to listen to as always guys. A couple of points near the end have got me thinking.

First - the reason why people like to watch TV inworld is probably the same as the reason we like our meetings. You can watch with a group of remote friends and discuss what you are seeing in your own virtual living room. Last week for example, we rigged up a video feed of the "Summer of Love" festival from San Francisco - I could have watched on the web but bringing it into a SIM led to a shared experience triggering memories and discussion.

On a similar point I started wondering about the not-so-absurd idea of building bathrooms and toilets in our virtual space. It may seem a whimsical notion based on familiarity with what we expect in our RL environment, but we are also used to using objects as metaphors in interface design. Like the wastebin on the desktop. Who is to say a virtual shower cannot one day be the trigger to defragment our inventory. Or the toilet a method of disposing of unwanted items.

We do rely on familiar functions to define our interaction with the digital world, however crude they may be. I have a niggling feeling that mimicking our natural organic requirements will filter through to the future 3D interface every bit as much as our human desire to maximise the potential for communication.

But hey - back to the feeds ...
