Sign up for GridSafari, a new transworld exploration group whose mission is to boldly go where no Avatar has gone before, to discover new worlds and new civilizations in the 3D web, and have a whole stack of fun doing it!
Many Metaversed readers are residents of Second Life, but Linden Lab's virtual world is not the only 3D social, commercial space out there. So, for those looking for a little adventure, or perhaps just a better understanding of the current state of the 3D web, GridSafari.com has been put together.
The 3D web is young, some might say not even realized to any significant degree as of yet, though new virtual spaces are popping up almost ever other week, and a veritable gold rush in the conference, consultancy and publications space is in full effect. At it's heart though, Metaversed, of which the GridSafari group is part, is about exploration, discovery and curiosity. We want to know how these environments might be used for business, and about the technology they employ. We want to experience, and scrutinize what's laid before us and consider the possibilities of a future where what we're doing now is no longer the domain of the Meta Geek, but part of everybody's daily online routine.
To that effect, GridSafari will be organizing an ongoing series of world tours. Some guided, some not, but all of them fun, as we attempt to explore new spaces, and learn about different approaches to both the social, economic and technological components of virtual worlds.

To make it easy for everyone, we've created a Google Group. You should sign up for it here: http://groups.google.com/group/gridsafari
Safari announcements will be made on the site also, but the email group is a good way to make absolutely sure you're in the loop, and can get help installing software or working through the tech issues that WILL arise from going on these expeditions.
Our first Safari will be announced later this week, and will almost certainly be to Kaneva.
Hope you all enjoy the new group!
