RDV Animations is a native Second Life business with one of the hottest products in the virtual world. They've sold 2000 units in the last 3 months at L$3000 per unit, all through basic Classified advertising and word of mouth. JenzZa Misfit markets the product now as a full-time job.
The product itself is a couples animator called "Rendezvous", created by JenzZa Misfit and Valradica Vale. Couples can walk together holding hands, fly together, swim, hug, kiss, and assume a number of resting animations. The product is entirely PG and there are no plans to make a sexual version, although a "just friends" version where there's no hand-holding or hugging will be released as well as a "business" version that includes handshakes and things along those lines.
The success of this product is hard to understand until you've actually seen it in action, at which point it seems obvious. (Click here for a YouTube video demo.) People don't come into virtual worlds to be alone. If you've ever tried to tour a place with another person, however, you've experienced the phenomena of losing them in flight, bumping into them, or some other awkwardness. Once you're both hooked into the animator, however, you can travel anywhere together and never lose sight of one another. This basic utility of being able to experience the virtual world together makes a huge difference.
The product has three things working against it: it's expensive (in Second Life terms), it isn't a wearable advice but must be rezzed on the ground, and won't perform properly above the 100m "normal flight" limitation. Despite these major issues its selling at a phenomenal rate.
By targetting consumers and not sinking to the lowest common denominator they've been able to create a new market for themselves. "Holding hands is way more intimate," JenzZa tells me, "The simple human connection is more powerful than sex." Now that the market for this kind of product has been established, they're moving on to other versions to help with tour groups, business meetings, and casual friends who just want to take a look at something together to get each other's feedback. Giving someone new to Second Life a hassle-free tour of a build is critical to marketers and content producers. For business people looking for an edge to fascilitate communication, tools like these that will become increasingly important.

wow. second life is just leaving the rest of the world in the dust. hey, slow down so us mere mortals can catch up.
Rendezvous is one of the BEST animators I have ever used. EVER!!!! Rock on JenzZa
I love the Rendezvous, and have been using it for at least a couple of months, but it has one major downside....the fact that it has to be rezzed and not worn means you cannot use it throughout most of Second Life, since most places will not permit the placing of objects. I can't tell you how many times I have been with "that special someone" wanting to explore a new and exciting place, tried to use the Renezvous, only to see the dreaded.."Placing objects not permitted in this location".
But that beind said, I love to use it at home, and for that alone it was worth the 3000L!!
Ooops, Almost forgot..
Hi Jennza!! LOL
Thank you Metaversed & everyone in Second Life :)
--Hi back Bugtracker ! -- it is too bad that the world is such that many land owners have to enforce no build - especially since if Rendezvous friendly -- people show up in pairs and actually STAY for awhile to walk around together and see things , shop together , etc. REAL traffic - not just camping stats *sigh* - but contact me in world -- I have been collecting landmarks of compatible areas to share with people and amazingly some sims have revised their permissions policies to allow the use of RDV because they recognize the value ...*yay !*
JenzZa,
That is fabulous news! And I (and hopefully every other satisfied owner of Rendezvous) will take advantage of the landmarks you've collected of compatible spots. I know I will personally contact you in world for this list.
By the way, I did find one myself just last weekend in case you don't yet have it. Its the second story (third maybe?) of the Eiffel Tower in New Paris, where the pose balls are located. I was so excited when I found it because what place in the world is more romantic then Paris? And being able to use my Rendezvous there was fantastic. I actually considered rezzing a bed after I realized it was indeed possible but traffic in Paris being what it is, thought better of it! LOLOL
W0ooow... nothing more to say... its incredible... very natural ...hope you will create more couples animators.....which way ever ...
Thank you ...
Tom
